Description

Men from left: Mr W Stubbs, Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Secretary; Dr Putnam; Dr A A Martin; Dr Peach. Nurses unknown. In 1914 DR A.A. Martin was went to England and America by public subscription to investigate the potential of X-ray, a new discovery. However, when war broke out he volunteered and was sent to the Western front, dying of wounds in 1916. The building constructed to house the new x-ray plant in 1918 was dedicated to him as a memorial.
