This photograph looks down Broadway Avenue from The Square. The building under construction is that of the Temperance and General Mutual Life Society Building, an insurance company that operated in Australia and New Zealand. In the 1920s and 1930s the Society engaged in a program of expanding its offices, and they constructed a number of new buildings with distinctive characteristics - multi-storey with a tower and signage with the society's name. From Right: T&G Building; AMP Building; Daisy's Coffee Bar; an unidentified hairdressers; Bennett's Bookshop; The Manawatu Daily Times office; Garners Department Store
