James Linton (1839-1907) was an early settler in Palmerston North, arriving in 1871. James and Sarah Anne Linton had a family of 2 daughters and 11 sons, and eventually left for Sydney in 1897. James Linton was Mayor from 1879 – 1882 and 1884 – 1885, and a Councillor 1889-1890.
