Cameron Jewellers, 114 King Street
- Description
This was one of the two Salvation Army halls built in 1922 (also see 71-73 Broadway). Described as the Young People’s “Halls”, the main entrance was on the left side of the building. The array of halls included the Boy’s Bible Classroom and a ‘crush hall’ on the ground floor, which in turn led to a social hall that included a kitchen. Adjoining this was the Primary Hall. The Young People’s Hall was on the upper floor, along with twelve small classrooms. A separate entrance led upstairs to the Young Women’s Bible Classroom. There was also an office and library.
The building’s exterior was, like the Citadel, of Atlas white cement with a red tile roof. The Salvation Army replaced its constantly leaking roof with corrugated iron shortly before selling it in 1983, when the two buildings were taken over by the Para Rubber Company. The building has had a variety of uses since then.
