Jubilee Celebrations End
- Description
This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 4 June, 1963. "Yesterday morning at the West End School the 50th jubilee celebrations ended when over 200 were in attendance. Everyone was high in their praise of the jubilee at which over 1000 attended the major functions. Last night 700 attended the premiere of the film "Jessica," shown by the courtesy of Sir Robert Kerridge. Yesterday there were many touching farewells, particularly those who had not met since school days. One thing is certain. All are waiting for the 60th jubilee. Above is Mr H. W. Jackon, headmaster from 1931 to 1950, bidding farewell to old pupils of the school. They are (from the left): Mrs Gobby (Miss D. Bruce), of Palmerston North; Mrs H. Hughes (Miss C. Blackbourn), of Pahiatua; Miss G. E. Jamieson (Howick) a teacher from 1923 to 1926; Mrs Smith (Miss B. Andrews), of Hamilton; and Mrs Harris (Miss K. McMurtrie), of Christchurch."
