The homestead near Palmerston North was built by (probably) Henry J Mason. It belonged to Donald Manson. In the 1920s Hugh Gillies, a stock buyer for the Gear Meat Company, lived there with his wife Millie Manson (Donald’s adopted daughter). He was involved in racehorse breeding and racing, breeding Scottish collie dogs, and was President of the Manawatu Racing Club.
