This photograph shows the Lakelet on the west side of The Square, near the Church Street corner. The clothing worn by the children dates them to the 1920s. JP Leary's music business was in existence in 1920 and Mortensen the watchmaker was trading around 1916-1925. The cannon in the centre of the picture was installed in 1909 after being purchased from the Defense Department. The buildings are, from left: Mortensen Watchmaker and Jeweller; GJ Hancock and Sons, Painters & Decorators, Signwriters; William Park Booksellers and Stationer; R Leary, Chemist; JP Leary, Pianoforte & Music sellers; Wighton's Seed Store; Tatton & Son, Dentist; Wycherley & Son, Saddler; Coles.
