This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 1 June, 1959. "The oldest former pupil present at the 70th jubilee celebrations of the Shannon School on Saturday. Mrs H. Payne (nee Sarah Wells) cuts the jubilee cake under the guidance of Mr K. Mitchell, the chairman of the Jubilee Committee. Mrs Payne's name was on the school's first roll in 1889."
