The celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Palmerston North, a programme of events was held from 15 to 22 March 1952. This included a parade around The Square of "Cavalcade of Transport Through the Ages," on the afternoon on Wednesday 19 March. In this photograph a cart and cyclist approach the Commercial Hotel on the corner of Main Street and Te Marae o Hine, The Square.
The third incarnation of the Commercial Hotel was built in 1935 and demolished in 1986. The sign towed by the cyclist reads "In Memory of the Good Old Bad Old Days."
