James Alfred Nash (c1868-1952) was Mayor of Palmerston North 1908-1923, and a Borough Councillor 1907-1908. He was the first Mayor to have been born in the Manawatu and came to Palmerston North at 13 years of age, gaining a job at the Ready Money Store in The Square. He later became a land, commission and insurance agent. Mr Nash was a Member of Parliament for Palmerston North, 1918-1935 serving as both as MP and Mayor for three years.
