Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 20 August 1970 with the caption, "In a grueling netball match which included an assortment of rucks, scrums and lineouts with a smattering of fancy dress, prefects of St Joseph's School in Fitchett Street, were beaten by a superior staff side 36-18. Informed sources have it that the staff side had several ring-ins including a bank manager. Our picture shoes a tense moment as Annette Heiden and Sister Anthony chase after the ball." St Joseph's School was a Catholic High School for girls. When the lease of its grounds and buildings ran out in the late 1970s, it was merged with St Peters College. The Metlife retirement village now stands in Fitchett Street on the old school site.
