Journalist Tina White's weekly "Memory Lane" article in the Manawatū Standard. Home deep freezing food was popular in the 1970s. British born Norma McCulloch, née Proudlove (1933-2010) from Rongotea became an expert in deep freezing techniques and appeared on radio and television. She invented the popular vacuum pump for sucking air out of freezer bags filled with food. She wrote "Deep Freeze Cookery", a best seller throughout Australasia. Norma also invented "The Breath of Life resuscitator", a manual alternative to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
