Panorama shows The Square when it was divided by roads, into 4 quadrants and a central strip. The foreground part of The Square shows the butterfly lakelet, with the central strip of The Square beyond, which the railway ran through. The road running up the left side of this image leads to Coleman Mall before turning right towards Rangitikei Street (the Bank of New Zealand is visible on the corner) and Broad Street (now Broadway Avenue). The road running from centre bottom of image up is Church Street.
