The Black Madonna, gift from Polish soldiers
- Description
This painting of the Black Madonna was one of the gifts sent from Polish soldiers to New Zealand. The gifts were sent to the Polish Army League, based in Palmerston North, by the soldiers of the Carpathian Division in Italy. They were made by Polish soldiers to give to New Zealand as an expression of their heartfelt gratitude for New Zealand's treatment of the Polish children refugees and appreciation of the great friendship shown to the soldiers through the sending of correspondence and parcels, during World War Two.
