This postcard must be between 1902 and 1908 because of the presence of both the Coronation Monument (constructed 1902) and the original band rotunda, which was moved to the Victoria Esplanade in 1907.The United Farmers’ Co-operative Association Ltd (centre right, with striped awning) was constructed in 1890 near the corner of Main Street east and The Square for Joseph Nathan & Co as the Ready Money Store. In 1892 it was sold to the newly formed Manawatu Farmers’ Co-operative Association Ltd. When it merged with the United Farmers Alliance Ltd. in 1895 it became the United Farmers’ Co-operative Association Ltd (UFCA). The store traded in a wide range of goods and continued to trade until 1908.
