This photograph of The Square was taken from the Grand Hotel and looks north. The corner of Broad Street (now Broadway Avenue) is in the top left corner. Further down is the corner of Main Street East where Palmerston North's fourth Post Office sits (built 1905-1906). The Band Rotunda in the photograph appears to be under construction. It was the second one to sit in The Square - the first was removed to the Victoria Esplanade in 1907. To the left of that is the train line that once ran through The Square. It was removed after the completion of the Milson Deviation made it redundant in 1959.
