"A.T.C. Personnel off to Christchurch"
- Description
This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 22 October, 1959. "Five members of the Air Training Corps who are guests of the New Zealand Air League leave today for Christchurch and thence to the opening of Wellington Airport. Two are Australians at present visiting New Zealand. From the left are: Sergeant Peter Cornish, R.A.A.F., A.T.C.; Captain Lindsay Savell, No. 10 Squadron A.T.C., Palmerston North; Sergeant Bryan Stretion, No. 10 Squadron A.T.C.; Sergeant John Maaey, of Brisbane, R.A.A.F., A.T.C.; and Captain Neil McNally, No. 10 Squadron A.T.C."
The following corrections were provided by Lindsay Savell:
* Only the two Australian A.T.C. visitors traveled to Christchurch. The other three of us did not go anywhere.
* Lindsay Savell rank at the time was 'Corporal', NOT 'Captain'.
* Third from left is Bryan Stretton, 'Sergeant'.
* Neil McNally rank at the time was 'Corporal - NOT 'Captain'.
Sergeant Peter Cornish, R.A.A.A.F., A.T.C. was billeted with Lindsay Savell's family in Palmerston North at the time.
