This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 09 June 1961 "Mr. J.D. O'Keefe operating a pipe-locating machine in Fitzherbert Avenue today to determine the position of the old 4 in. gas main which will be replaced by a 6 in. main to improve the service to the lower end of the city. After the pipe is located its position is marked in paint by Mr. K. Paul (kneeling)."
