Description

This image was taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 08 April 1963, "Workmen of the parks and reserves department of the Palmerston City Council were using a new machine in the Esplanade this morning. The equipment consists of a power unit which drives a roto-bit cutting head on the end of a long boom. The work of pruning the palm trees was reduced to minutes instead of days. A spokesman from the department said that many man hours would be saved by the use of the new machine. It was capable of pruning quite large branches in seconds and no step ladders were required."
