The Alwyn Physical Culture Club was a woman's only club opened in Palmerston North in 1936. It was modelled on American clubs of the same name and in consultation with Madame Lauri Alwyn, who visited at the time of inauguration. It was set up as a club for monthly meetings on health, beauty and exercise, but developed into a general fitness club. It closed in 2004.

Mrs Muriel Inglis
Sec, A.P.C.C.
Palmerston North
N.Z.

Dear Mrs(?) Inglis,
Please thank the president and officers
of the Club for sending me the invitation to the 21st
Birthday Dinner, I am proud of the group, and also delighted
to be remembered.
May be those who remember me, will be interested to know
that we are keeping up the Alwyn teaching via Radio & TV.
We have a daily Radio show half hour from 10.30 am. to 11.
Once a week we do a half hour TV show, in both programmes we
include exercises and health hints for Keeping Young &
Beautiful, my daughter Eve is with me on both programmes,
and we decide the matter of "items of interest" ourselves.
The A.P.C.C. of P.N. will get full recognition with pictures
and story during the week of the dinner, so we will be with
you all in spirit.
I am enclosing a leaflet of my rhymes, may be one of the members
can read one of the poems marked; And if and one of the group
would care to have a copy, just write to me and I will send it.

If you product has merit - the Alwyns will sell it

If I can get the time to make a tape recording I will send it for
the Birthday dinner, so make enquiries about getting a play back
machine, may be the local Radio station would set it up for you.

We do not celebrate Birthdays of people any more, we just try to
forget the passage of time, and try not to be age conscious, it helps
one to keep young. The Eskimo women have no ages at all, the ancient
Greek women only counted the years from date of marriage.

I have to recall that my son is reaching the age of 21 his life was
started in Palmerston North, he has grown into a fine looking man over
six feet tall; at present he is in Baltimore studying American business
methods. My daughter and I moved to Palm Beach in March of this year
because we like the climate the beaches and the tropical atmosphere.

Some time in the not too distant future I may again visit the southern
hemisphere, never be surprised, the Alwyns have a reputation for being
recurring. Until we meet again, may God bless you all, keep well and
happy, Cheerio
