“How A Binge Can Bring Success”
- Description
-
These images were taken for the April 23rd 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper, the first of which was published with the caption “Mrs Moreton with painting number 1,000.”
An excerpt from the article written by Stephen Stewart read: “Judith Moreton goes on ‘binges’ every now and then – painting binges. She manages to churn out 100 paintings a year in her own unique style, has just chalked up her 1000th painting, and is thinking about exhibiting her works in California. Her paintings have already gained national and international repute. Not bad for a housewife and for someone who refused to conform to the ‘rules and regulations’ of art. Mrs Moreton is from Palmerston North, although she now lives in Te Aroha. She returned to her home town last Saturday, April 15, for the opening of a two-week exhibition of her works. The exhibition finishes on Friday (April 28).”
These images form part of the Manawatū Evening Standard Negative Collection. Unfortunately, only negatives between April and December 1978 are held.
