'Mac' McGregor (b. c1895) was killed in an air crash at Wellington 18 February 1936, and had a full military funeral. Here, the cortege is moving along Church Street East to the Opera House, where a commemorative service was held, before burial at Kelvin Grove Cemetery. Squadron leader McGregor was a well known pilot in New Zealand during the 1920-1930s, having a distinguished career during World War One and becoming a pioneer of commercial aviation during the 1930s. He was one of the first pilots of Union Airways of NZ Ltd (1936), which was the first commercial airline to operate from Palmerston North, and was also instructor for the Manawatu Aero Club for several years.
