The 40 year old pine tree was recommended for inclusion in the city’s tree register shortly before it was chopped down by Mr Roy Mudgeway. The cottage was already on the Council’s register of historic buildings worth preserving. It was dismantled in 1980 by Palmerston North carpenter, Mr Graham Norman. He planned to reconstruct the building in James Line, if planning aproval was given.
