Description

The Manawatū River shared pathway is a popular recreational spot, great for biking, skateboarding, rollerskating, scooting, running and walking. Dogs are allowed off-leash along most of the pathway and if you look at this picture very carefully, you may be able to spot the dog swimming in the river!

This photo is taken at the Okatia Steps, built by Horizons Regional Council as part of the city's flood protection work. They're designed to enhance their surrounds and allow safe public access to the river.

The steps are named after Okatia, a taniwha Rangitāne believe guards the river.
