Description

In 1947 the Palmerston North City Council undertook the control of 740 acres in the Pohangina Valley at the foot of the Ruahine Mountains, and the Pohangina Domain Board was formed to manage the reserve. In 1989 management and control passed to the then-new Manawatu District Council. Now, as the Totara Reserve Regional Park, it is jointly administered by Manawatu District Council and Horizons Regional Council, and is governed by a trust.
