The Manawatu Meat Co Ltd was the first established butchery in Palmerston North. It was opened by Joseph Beale c1887 and was renamed the “Manawatu Meat Company” in 1909. The Manawatu Meat Company moved to premises in Broadway Avenue in 1934, and acquired cool stores and the Tiki Bacon Company business in Princess Street, also in the 1930's. Fred Bryant and William Reed, and Meessrs Carter and Rawston ran the business after Joseph Beale.
