Rostrata was situated on the corner of Ruahine and Ferguson Streets. It was built in the 1890s and run as a private maternity home, until the Palmerston North Hospital Board took it over. It continued under their administration 1949 - 1962 when it was closed. The receipt records the fees charged to Mrs Marjorie Matheson (wife of James), for the birth of her son Ian Roderick Matheson in 1946.
