Ashhurst School opened in September 1879. The head teacher at the time of these photographs was Mr R. Norm Finlay, who held the position from c.1935-1954. Other teachers included Misses P. M. O'Neill, L. M. Drummond and M. M. Thompson. The school roll was 116 pupils in May 1948.
