Description

This view shows Mr George Lucas' dwellinghouse (cut into two portions) being shifted from Penny's Line, Mt Stewart, to Awahuri. The traction engine belonged to Mr John Matthews of Mt Stewart and was being driven by his son, Hector. Mr Lucas was the blacksmith at Awahuri and married a Miss Nairn. This farmhouse was originally owned by the Nairn family and was sold to Mr Lucas. The house was still standing in the 1970s.
