Thomas Rimmer and John Craven were storekeepers and timber merchants in Ashhurst, operating from c.1899 until 1904, when the partnership was dissolved and Craven continued the business independently. The signage on their premises advertised their services as including "Builders, Contractors & Undertakers" and "Ironmongers." The road appears smoother than in earlier photographs and has possibly been graded or sealed.
