Rimmer & Craven, Ashhurst
More Info →- Description
-
The premises of Rimmer & Craven, Ashhurst, whose services are advertised as "Builders, Contractors & Undertakers" and "Ironmongers." Members of the two families are shown in front of the store. It is thought that the cluster of nine people on the right of the photograph comprise Ellen Rimmer, Tom Rimmer, holding Alick, and Annie at the back with Etta, Lizzie and Alice Craven (order unknown) standing in front of them, and Bob and Reg Craven (or vice versa) at the very front. John Craven stand immediately to the left of Ellen Rimmer. On 23 April 1904, an advertisement appeared in the Manawatu Daily Times announcing that the partnership between Thomas Rimmer and John Craven "storekeepers and timber merchants, at Ashhurst, has been dissolved" and that the business would in future be carried on by John Craven.
