  • Wesleyan Soldiers Institute - postcard from Bob Eastwood
Description

A group of soldiers pose outside the Wesleyan Soldiers Institute, while some of the women from the Institute stand in the doorway. During the First World War the Epsom Methodist Church set up the Wesleyan Soldiers Institute, a forces canteen, in a large, single-storey wooden building on its church lawn. This postcard was sent by Robert (Bob) Edward Allen Eastwood (1895-1973), who served with the 4th Battalion 3 NZ Rifle Brigade from May 1916 until July 1918, when he was discharged on medical grounds. The inscription reads: "28/1/18
Am doing well and will write in a few days so don’t worry. Only posted a letter Saturday.
Bob."
