Gary Schofield was born in Palmerston North and educated at St Paul's Collegiate, Hamilton, and then at Otago University. He received the Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award at age 18. He returned to Palmerston North in 1979 after exhibiting his work through Europe and England. Article in Manawatu Standard 1 August 1979.
