This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 10 February 1958, page 6: "With the Legion of Frontiersmen guards stiffly at the present arms position, Messrs. C.T. Flyger, the newly-elected Dominion president, and W.E. Thomas, senior vice-president of the Palmerston North branch, stand in silence yesterday at the ceremony at the War Memorial when the members of the South African War Veterans' Association gathered to honour their former comrades."
