This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 21 May, 1959. "About 300 acres of farmlands flooded to the north of Rangiotu included half a mile of the main Palmerston North-Himatangi road, which last evening was closed to traffic. This morning several cars were successful in their venture across. All stock has been removed to higher levels, and nearby farmers were up at all hours last night in case the flooding became really serious." Other photos associated with this article was published on the same day.
