Letter from the Town Clerk, PNCC, regarding the opening of the new Clock Tower in The Square
- Description
In 1953 Arthur Hopwood gifted the city of Palmerston North £10,000 to build a tower in The Square to hold the clock and chimes removed from the Post Office after the 1942 earthquake. It was opened in 1957. In reply to Mr J J Coffey, 5 Ada Street, Palmerston North, suggestion that the Governor General be invited to open the new structure the Council thanked him but said would be a quiet ceremony due to the health of Arthur Hopwood.
