Villa Maria Boarding House and School, Whanganui
- Description
This photograph was created by William James Young in the early 20th century and is part of the Young collection. Since publication to Manawatū Heritage, this image has been identified as Villa Maria Boarding house and School in Whanganui, c.1900. The distinctive building was also once known as 'Hutchinson's Folly'.
The Young collection contains a large variety of subjects, but family, rural life and travel are the most prominent themes. The Young family were apparently avid travellers and photographs later in the collection feature scenes from Rotorua, Auckland, Whanganui, as well as other unidentified locations.
