Audrey was born in Newcastle in 1928 and came to New Zealand in 1956. She started in broadcasting with 2ZE in Blenheim in 1967 and announced for Radio Changi in Singapore for two years. She started at 2ZA in 1971, for the first two years as a shopping reporter and then went on to the afternoon programme. 2ZA, 'The Voice of the Manawatu', was a local radio station that began broadcasting in 1938.
