This image looking towards the corner of Church Street West and The Square shows an interesting view of the Grand Hotel, built in 1906. To the left of the Grand Hotel (on Church Street) is the building that contains the Municipal Offices, for PNCC. This building was originally the offices of the Colonial Bank of New Zealand, leased first in 1900 and purchased in 1905. The Library was housed here from 1900 to 1905. In 1944-1945, a new building was built (now Square Edge). Samuel Kirklands Electrical Shop does not appear in the Wises' Post Office Directory until 1922 - dating this photograph around 1920-1921.
