“Axle Break Caps Off Frustrating Season”

Description

This image was published in the October 15th, 1978, edition of the Tribune weekly newspaper with the caption: “Robert Orr, looking suitably disgusted, with the remains of the first axle they broke in the Motogard rally. The second axle broke in the same place, in the recent Pall Mall championship.”

An excerpt from the article read: “A month of preparation, a chance of winning the Pall Mall rally championship - all went up in smoke, with only 1.83 kilometres of road covered. There were 678.2 kilometres to go. That's all Palmerston North’s Brian Green and Robert Orf could manage in the last round of the Pall Mall rally championship, which was in the Whangarel/Auckland area last weekend.”
