Description

Looking across the Square, probably from the DIC building. The old Post Office is on the left of the photograph and the library building is opposite it. The library moved to its current home in the old CM Ross building in 1996. The old library building is now the Square Centre - housing office space and a cafe. The King Edward Memorial is on the left side of the photo. It has since been moved to the quadrant of the Square closest to Broadway Avenue. The Hopwood Clock Tower is also visible. It has undergone a number of changes including the removal of the original sound shell at the base of the tower (just visible in this photograph) in the early 1990s and the addition of a cross. During 2007 the Hopwood Clock Tower was refurbished and it is now topped with a lantern style cross. The War Memorial can be seen in front of it.
