This image was taken for a story that ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 20 July, 1963. "The driver of this five-ton truck, loaded with six tons of concrete blocks, suspected nothing as he manoeuvred in the Ministry of Works storage garage in Cuba Street yesterday to allow other vehicles to leave the building. Suddenly, with a creak and a groan, the covering over an inspection pit the driver had unknowingly passed over gave way under the combined weight of the truck and its load, and one rear wheel dropped 3ft into the pit, leaving the deck of the truck at a crazy angle. The blocks were to be used as ballast on a road testing job at Ohakea. The operation of lifting the blocks off the deck and then the truck from the pit with a mobile crane was completed within half an hour. An inspection revealed no damage to the vehicle."
