This image was taken for a story that ran in The Manawatu Evening Standard on 16 December, 1959. “Private R. Burns, who stopped at Palmerston North Railway Station on his way home to Gisborne from service in Malaya, shakes hands with Mr P. Lynch, a former soldier with the New Zealand Malayan Contingent. Looking on is Private L. C. Duggan. Both soldiers expressed themselves as heartily glad to be back home.”
