Buildings from left: C C Miles and Co, auctioneers; Wollerman and Company, Wine and Spirit Merchants (established in the 1880s); Trocadero Restaurant or Tearooms, which could be related to the Wellington Restaurant of the same name; The Furniture Warehouse was owned by Messrs Simmonds and Pegden in 1883 and from 1888 the business was carried on by Mr Pegden alone. The shop was destroyed by fire in 1891 and replaced with the building in this photograph. It was later destroyed by fire in April 1910.; The Occidental Hotel stood on the corner of Fitzherbert Avenue and the Square. It was erected about 1887 and destroyed by fire in 1891. A second hotel on the same site also burned down in 1927.
