Fourth Palmerston North Public Library, Corner of Fitzherbert Avenue and The Square
- Description
The Palmerston North Public Library was in this building 1929 -1965. This Library was purpose built by the City Council on the site of the Occidental Hotel, destroyed by fire. The Library was originally housed upstairs and offices and shops occupied the ground floor, but in later years it expanded into some areas downstairs. The building has since been demolished. The businesses below the library are: J Cousins, Clothier and Mercer; J Ellis, Chemist; Confectioner (with Eskimo Pies sign); Tiny Tots Garage Manufacturers (factory in Church Street West); Marama Artcrafts.
