Description

This shop was established by the Amesbury Brothers in the 1890s. It was taken over by John Bletchley (d.1919) in 1895, who worked the store until he retired in 1914. Photograph shows Gordon Bleakley (b. 22 December 1900, d. 6 September 1981) with his parents, Mr and Mrs John Bleakley. The front sign of the building reads, "Rongotea Store - Amesbury Brother - General Storekeepers - Drapery Importers".
