Cafe Peking was situated at 355 Main Street West, Palmerston North, providing casual dinners and Chinese takeaways. Next door, in Main Street, was the Peking Licensed Restaurant which offered Cantonese and Pekingese meals. The Licensed restaurant opened on 25 February, 1981. The Cafe Peking had been operating for a number of years before this time.
