'Siberia' homestead, Ashhurst-Aokautere Road

Description

The homestead was built by Arthur and Isabella Harding in c1906. It was subsequently owned by Alexander McHardy, George Hannah and finally the Kebbell family, during whose time, in 1940, a Royal New Zealand Air Force plane crashed into the house, after which the top storey was rebuilt. In 1961 the house was destroyed by fire, and was replaced by a new, more modest home.
