St John's Presbyterian Church Moves to Highbury
- Description
This photograph ran in the Manawatu Evening Standard on 19 February 1973 with the caption, "It looked like a case of "if Mohammed wouldn't go to the mountain, the mountain ad to go to Mohammed" when St John's Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, was moved on Saturday. The Church wants to get closer to its parishioners, most of whom are now in the Highbury area, so it was moved by a Whanganui firm from Nikau Street to Brentwood Avenue. City Council staff lifted power and telephone lines along Featherston Street as the 26ft high building moved along. It took about three hours for the church to reach the new site where it will be renovated and extended."
