Jean Hardie participated in the annual festivals of the Manawatū Competitions Society between c.1940 and 1946 and frequently won awards. During the Nineteenth Annual Festival, which took place between 11 and 16 May 1942, she was awarded four certificates.

These comprised: Second Prize, Classical Ballet Dance, 10 and under 13; Third Prize, Demi-character Dance, 10 and under 13; Third Prize, Dance Duo (other than Tap), 12 years and over, Jean Hardie and Audrey Wilton; Very Highly Commended, Character Dance (National), 10 and under 13.
